Jessica Chobot is one of the most familiar faces in gaming and has played many different roles in the industry, from media personality to actor and writer. She began work in 2006 as a host at IGN and has since appeared everywhere from G4TV to Maxim Radio. In 2012 she went from reporting on games to being in them when she took on the role of reporter Diana Allers in Mass Effect 3 and more recently starred in the live action short film Metroid: The Sky Calls. She’s also dipped her toes into game development, writing the 2014 survival horror game Daylight. Currently she can be seen every day as the host of Nerdist News at Nerdist.com.

What is the first video game you ever played?

“Pretty much anything on the Atari 2600 (was the first system the family owned). I remember the games I always went back to were, PITFALL, RIVER RAID & RIDDLE OF THE SPHINX.”

What is your favorite game of all time?

“That’s a tough question, but based completely on nostalgic vibes, I’d have to go with Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the N64 and MYST on PC.”

Which hobbies or pastimes do you enjoy besides gaming?

“I am very much into the paranormal & oddities in general, so much so, that I started a podcast along w/ fellow Nerdist cohort, Andrew Bowser called BIZARRE STATES (you can find it on iTunes), I’m also a HUGE K-drama fan and love the up-tick happening within the fan-girl fashion scene right now.”

How do you balance gaming and family life?

“Due to time and responsibilities, I think the biggest change I’ve made in order to be able to do a little bit of everything I like without getting burnt out is to just focus on specific things within each section of interest and not try to know EVERYTHING all of the time. Thereby giving myself enough leeway to truly enjoy myself and not just flail through a bunch of content due to pressure and thereby turning it all into a gigantic grind.”
