Summer Game Bang Preview: Evil Dead: The Game

There are some things in life that just keep coming back for more: Nacho Fries from Taco Bell, Ninja Warrior, Shaquille O’Neil in television commercials and the Evil Dead franchise are just some of many examples. I have to admit that I am an absolute sucker for the latter of these. I unapologetically love the misadventures of Ash Williams and his unending and nonsensical battle against the book of the dead. So it was good news to hear that later this year I’ll be able to put myself in the chainsaw of the man himself when I play Boss Rush Games’ Evil Dead: The Game.

Evil Dead is a cooperative multiplayer game inspired by the forty year old iconic horror franchise of the same name. The original Evil Dead film released in 1983 when I was only 3 years old, and much like those Nacho Fries from Taco Bell this property is showing no signs of going away. With four major motion pictures, a fifth on the way, a short lived cable series, and even a Broadway musical, Evil Dead has been entertaining fans like me for a long time. While there have been a handful of video games to make use of the license, Evil Dead: The Game is the first one to seemingly gather all of the source material into one blood-soaked action experience.

The latest trailer, which was revealed at Summer Game Fest, confirmed that this is indeed a multiplayer experience that appears to take inspiration from games such as Dead by Daylight and Friday the 13th. Players control one of four characters plucked from Evil Dead’s cinematic history and tasks them with exploring familiar environments as they gather key items in order to banish the evil back to the depths from which they came. I will say that I am a little disappointed that Evil Dead: The Game doesn’t appear to have any story or campaign, as I’m typically not a fan of multiplayer only experiences. However there does appear to be a good party game in here if you can get a group of friends online who enjoy a few gory laughs.

Evil Dead: The Game will be launching this year across all platforms.
