Geoff Keighley kicked off his 2nd annual Summer Game Fest yesterday with a 90 minute show of varying amounts of highs and lows. For me, there was one standout announcement, and it kicked off the entire presentation; Tina Tina’s Wonderland! Details are still scarce, but this looks like it’s going to be a Borderlands spinoff, set in a brand new genre with all the trappings of a Dungeons and Dragons motif.
The trailer shows off some pretty fancy spell casting, some sword wielding, and even Tina herself ends the trailer with the infamous D&D catchphrase, “Roll for initiative, bitches!” Ok, so maybe bitches isn’t usually part of the catchphrase, but perhaps that’ll make everything about this game that much more interesting!
The game is also being voiced by a pretty impressive cast with names like Andy Samberg, Wanda Sykes, Will Arnet, and reprising her role as the titular protagonist Tiny Tina is Ashly Burch! Oh… did I forget to mention that they’re also bringing back the diamond unicorn princess herself?? Oh yes, BUTT STALLION has been confirmed! The game is currently scheduled to come out “early 2022”. We’ll see if this pans out, but as a very recent D&D enthusiast, this was my highlight of the entire SGF presentation, and I’m intrigued to see what Gearbox can do with this new spin.
