The Best Halloween Games for Kids

This time of year everybody is looking to play some spooky video games. From Resident Evil to Dead by Daylight, there is no shortage of games to terrify you and test your bladder control, but while getting the pants scared off of you is great, what about the young ones in your household? Those who are too young to watch Jason disembowel his enemies or be stalked by a Xenomorph? After all, Halloween is a holiday for the kids, so we’ve gathered together a list of the very best Halloween video games to be enjoyed by trick or treaters of all ages!

LUIGI’S MANSION 3 – NINTENDO SWITCH
RATED E (Comic Mischief, Mild Cartoon Violence)

In his third solo adventure, Luigi explores 17 floors of a haunted hotel, sucking up ghouls and ghosts with his trusty Poltergust. Players will uncover the secrets of the hotel and unmask the villian behind the plot to capture Luigi and his friends, and he’ll do it with the aide of his new companion, the ectoplasmic doppleganger Gooigi! The game also features some fun multiplayer modes so that parents can play along with their kids.

ANIMAL CROSSING: NEW HORIZONS – NINTENDO SWITCH
RATED E (Comic Mishchief)

Technically Animal Crossing: New Horizons isn’t a Halloween game, but it is definitely one of the most fun games to play during the month of October due to their month long themed event. In the weeks leading up to Halloween you can collect, craft, and decorate your island with all sorts of fun cosmetics from jack o lanterns to pumpkin patches, then on October 31st Jack the Pumpkin Czar will visit your island and your neighbors will dress up and pass out candy. It’s a fun time for ghouls of all ages and one you can enjoy for weeks leading up to the big day.

COSTUME QUEST – XBOX, PS3, PC, IOS
RATED E (Cartoon Violence, Tobacco Reference)

Probably the most “Halloween” game on the list, Costume Quest takes place on that magical night and tells the story of a young child who must rescue their sibling from the monster who kidnapped them while trick or treating. In this RPG you’ll travel around your neighborhood upgrading your Halloween costume and enlisting other kids on your quest to defeat the monster and save the day. From the wonderfully creative minds at Double Fine Productions (Psychonauts), this might askew slightly towards older kids with it’s RPG mechanics, but it’s a great time for the whole family.

HELLO NEIGHBOR – XBOX, PLAYSTATION, SWITCH, PC, IOS, ANDROID
RATED E10+ (Mild Violence)

This creepy stealth game tasks players with sneaking into their neighbor’s house without being seen to uncover the secret hidden within. As you crawl and tiptoe from room to room, Mr. Peterson will attempt to hunt you down and capture you. Think of it as a sort of Slenderman game for the kiddos. The cat and mouse game can get a bit tense though, so maybe be cautious with younger kids or those who don’t do well with stressful games.

GOOSEBUMPS: DEAD OF NIGHT – PLAYSTATION, XBOX, SWITCH, PC
RATED E10+ (Fantasy Violence, Mild Blood)

Based off of the classic best selling books series, this spooky adventure will have kids going up against Slappy the Dummy to escape a series of terrifying monsters and collect the pages of Slappy’s book to once again seal him and his creatures away for good. Goosebumps is a Halloween staple and is sure to give your kids a frighteningly good time.
