10 Years Down … How Many to Go?

10 Years. That’s an incredibly long time. 10 years ago Mega Dads started as a way to kill time and flex some creative muscle. It lacked direction and purpose but it seemed like something cool to do. Looking back at the road I’ve travelled since launching Mega Dads it’s truly remarkable to think about how that strange idea has had such an impact on my life!

I’m not just talking about the access to the gaming industry through interviews, review codes and conventions (although that’s all great). I’m talking about how Mega Dads has enriched who I am. Here I am, a little older, a little chubbier and full of gratitude to everyone who has helped me tell this story over the last decade.

You see, Mega Dads isn’t just a place to talk about games, it’s about people like you and me. Mega Dads has helped me appreciate how fun life can be in my 40s. I’ve become a better friend, a better father and a better observer of the world around me.

Thanks to the people who I have met along the way I have become more informed of other walks of life, I’ve gained insight into how other people in similar positions see the world, and I’ve had to pretend to listen to all the boring shit Antonio talks about when we podcast.

But as anyone who has worked somewhere for a decade or more can probably relate to, I find myself asking myself ‘what comes next’? The industry and media environment around Mega Dads has rapidly changed so fast that I find myself struggling to understand how we fit into it. Our audience has grown in many ways but has also receded in others.

It can be easy for a content creator to feel like they are living in an echo-chamber. Unsure of who is getting the message they’re putting out and what value it brings. So for me I’ve learned to look inward. The measure of Mega Dads success doesn’t have to be how many supporters we have on our Patreon, or how many subs we have on YouTube, it can be how fulfilling it is to be a part of.

I’ve done so much reflecting over the last 12 months as we celebrated this milestone of 10 Years of content creation and I have to say the one thing I walked away from more sure than ever is how proud I am of having dedicated my time and energy into Mega Dads.

So, how much farther do we go? Hard to say, but in this moment, there is nowhere I’d rather be than here.
