Cozy Games

As the days get shorter and nights get colder people all over are beginning to switch into hibernation mode. We’re all going to be spending a lot more time indoors as we prepare for Winter and that means it’s time to plan out some activities to keep us from going crazy as our kids bounce off of the walls.
Some folks might have a list of books they want to read, others perhaps will be binge-watching a new show, but at Mega Dads we’ve got our sights set on seasonal gaming. So I thought it would be the perfect time to recommend some of my favorite cozy games that go well with a nice blanket and a cup of hot cocoa.

The ultimate in chill and relaxing experiences, Animal Crossing New Horizons is a perfect game to snuggle up with for the long Winter. It also doubles as a replacement for actually going outside and playing in the snow. With Animal Crossing you can make a snowman, decorate your yard for the Holidays and even get some shopping done, all without ever having to get out of your PJs,

A Short Hike is another game that allows you to get out and explore nature from the comfort of your couch. Putting you at the base of a mountain resort you are free to explore and play in this wonderfully crafted pixel wonderland. Partake in events like foot races, sitting by a campfire or soaring through the air as a bird, watching the animals and sights pass below you. A Short Hike is a delightfully relaxing and cuddly game.

Toem: A Photo Adventure is another slow paced, charmer that has you visiting delightful towns, forests and mountain tops as you take photographs of the hilarious characters and pleasant environments. Toem has a great big world to explore at your leisure and I found myself smiling ear to ear the entire time I played. Toem also features a fantastically chill soundtrack that compliments the zen vibes this game puts out.

If we’re talking Cozy Games, we have to give a nod to a game that has “hugging” as a vital gameplay mechanic. While the themes of Spiritfarer can be emotionally charged, there is an undeniable warmth to this game that will warm your heart even on the coldest of nights. Spiritfarer is all about caring for those around you and helping them see the best of themselves. It’s the perfect game to invest in if you’re looking for a longer Cozy Game to get you through until Spring.

If you’re looking for a good laugh to warm you up this Winter look no further than Night in the Woods. This game features some of the most witty and charming characters I’ve seen in a game in a long time. As Mae the cat returns to her hometown at the end of Autumn, she reconnects with her parents and the high school friends she left behind when she went off to college. You’ll explore the small town vibes of Possum Springs as you learn about your true self and the value of true friends.
It’s like a Hallmark movie… with cats who drink until they puke and also a creepy murder cult that lives in the woods.
