Game of the Month (February 2025) - Kingdom Come: Deliverance II
February is here, and it feels like the holiday gifts just keep on coming. This month has got a load of amazing games that are bringing the hype for this month’s Mega Dads Game of the Month. You want an addicting “just one more round” strategy game? Sid Meyer’s Civilization VII is coming. You want exploration within an open world RPG? Avowed and Kingdom Come: Deliverance II give you a choice between total fantasy and realistic fiction. Are you more of a classic RPG type of gamer? Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak 2 will scratch that itch. More in the mood for some humor and action? Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii has got you covered. How about hunting some giant beasts? Grab some friends or hunt solo in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Are you exhausted yet? I know I am, but we’ve got to pick our most anticipated one out of the bunch to talk about today. I’m going to shut my eyes, spin around three times, and throw my +1 Throwing Knife of Choosing.
…After I sew my cat’s tail back on, it’s decided that this month’s Game of the Month is going to be Kingdom Come: Deliverance II.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is an open world Action RPG developed by Warhorse Studios and published by Deep Silver. It’s set in the beautiful and brutal medieval world of 15th Century Bohemia. You play as Henry of Skalitz, who’s epic journey takes him from humble beginnings as the son of a blacksmith to changing the fate of the land. He began this journey in the previous game, which garnered a lot of praise and controversy, and will conclude his journey in this sequel. It’s likely that you will not need to have played the first game to get into this one, as it is mentioned that there are cutscenes that are accessible to those who have not played the predecessor.
I honestly never got to play Kingdom Come: Deliverance, though it’s been on my backlog list for years. As the sequel approaches, I’ve heard so much about the quality of life improvements, and how the developers have created this game to be everything that they wanted the first game to be. Like the original, the team has brought on the expertise of historians, universities and museums to create a world that is as true to the time period as possible. As gamers, we went through a long period where open world RPGs were dropping like raindrops, but this game feels different to me from all I’ve heard. It sounds robust in its lore and story, and looks to have game mechanics that will keep us engaged without getting lost in the minutiae. I’m a gamer that loves to get lost in the atmosphere of a game, even if the story doesn’t grab me. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II looks to be a game that has both, and I’m very much looking forward to seeing if the reality is just as good as the hype.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is scheduled to be released on February 4, 2025 for PS5, PC, and Xbox X/S.
