Year in Review
Wow.
What a rollercoaster of a year. If you would have told me at the start of this year where Mega Dads would end 2022, I would have told you that you were off your rocker. But as with all things, life tends to serve up many challenges, changes and opportunities. 2022 will go down as the biggest year of change Mega Dads will likely ever see.
It all started in March when we were delivered the unexpected and abrupt departure of our co-founder. With no warning and no time to prepare I found myself suddenly at a tipping point for Mega Dads. Do I sunset this project that I have poured my heart and soul into for the last 8 years of my life, or do I roll up my sleeves and push forward to make Mega Dads the best it can be and with nothing standing in my way?
The answer should seem obvious at this point because not only is Mega Dads still here, but it’s standing as tall as it ever has before with more content, more community engagement, more creativity and more fun. My mission at Mega Dads has always been to deliver laughs and entertainment to the people who enjoy their time here. My hope is that with all the bumps in the road along the way, you the consumer has never had a doubt in your mind that each week we, the Mega Dads, would be here to deliver laughs, insight and entertainment for you now and into the future.
But before we get to that promising future, let’s take a look back at 2022 and some of the awesome fun we had with you at our side.
WEBSITE REBUILT FROM SCRATCH!
Perhaps the biggest undertaking this year was the complete migration and reconstruction of this very website. While hopefully you, the community did not notice too big of an interruption of service, we tore the entire website down to the studs and moved from Wordpress to Squarespace. The challenges and shortcomings of using Wordpress with our growing business were insurmountable and we finally made the move in early Spring.
The result is a much better operating website with integral key features that we at Mega Dads really needed to continue to grow and thrive in the way that we needed to. It looks incredible too!
MEGA DADS LIVE REBOOTED!
After 8 years and 96 episodes of our tried-and-true podcast formula, I was abruptly faced with the challenge of rebooting the series as it rounded the corner towards episode 100. After a pilot-period with Antonio and Will, Will chose to part ways with Mega Dads and Berto promptly stepped in to take third chair.
We also had a LIVE community watch-along event celebrating Mega Dads Live’s 100th episode with a look back on the best moments as well as hearing from some of our best friends from across the industry speak about the impact our show has made throughout the years!
A recent poll of our community found that Mega Dads Live is the most popular thing that we at Mega Dads do. Now with myself, Antonio and Berto behind the mic we have the best crew possible to deliver your favorite podcast each and every month!
HUGE GROWTH ON YOUTUBE!
Back in 2020 we made a real commitment to video content with the debut of our very first Mega Dads Fall Preview. Ever since then I have been spearheading a push towards video and it has resulted in a major shift in engagement for Mega Dads.
In 2022 we released over 200 videos to our YouTube channel and in return you blessed us with an incredible audience that kept coming back for more.
With a 117% increase in Watch Time and a 105% increase in Views over 2021, we were blown away by the response to our video content. We promise to deliver even more next year! You can help us continue to grow by subscribing to Youtube.com/MegaDads today.
SHINING THE SPOTLIGHT
This Fall we premiered a limited series titled “Spotlight” where I reconnected with many friends and collaborators who I’ve had the privilege of working with over my eight years of Mega Dads. Spotlight featured deep and enriching conversations with so many people that I admire and respect and it was truly an honor to be able to sit down and have these conversations documented as a part of Mega Dads history.
YEAR TEN OF EXTRA LIFE
In November I celebrated my Tenth year participating in Extra Life and we did it in style. Extra Life Story Mode brought a fun and interactive way of fundraising. The team participated in a role playing game ala Dungeons and Dragons with a story that was guided through donations. In the end we raised over $3,000 for Extra Life and we had an AWESOME Live-Stream party which included a ball-pit, a laser-light concert, and plenty of laughs as my Mom called into the stream and… well… acted like my mom.
That’s just a small sample of some of the crazy fun we had here at Mega Dads in 2022. It was a bumpy year, a year full of unexpected challenges, but if you ask me… it was a fucking awesome year of family, friends and fun. Thank you for being a part of the Mega Dads story.
