Star Wars: Jedi Survivor First Impressions

Star Wars: Jedi Survivor has been out for about a week and I’m about 5 hours in. I can say without a doubt that this game takes the successes from its predecessor and expands on them greatly providing what has so far been an epic experience!

The Story

(Minor Early Game Spoilers)

Jedi Survivor takes place a few years after Fallen Order ends. The game opens with Cal Kestis on Coruscant sans his old companions looking for details regarding the Empire’s activities. The situation quickly goes bad and he narrowly escapes this tutorial level to a planet where the real journey begins. Along the way, Cal meets a cast of new and old friends that will take him across the galaxy in search of answers and a way to thwart the Empire’s plans!

The World(s)

This game is massive! I have finished the main quest on the first world after the tutorial and I’ve only explored about 25% of it. There are tons of hidden quests, characters, collectibles and locations. The main quest does a good job of giving just a taste of what’s out there and every area of the map shows how many secrets are hidden within it. Hidden pieces of ore that serve as the game’s currency for things like costumes, hairstyles, and other in game content. These are hidden throughout the worlds and there are 1000 of them to find!

The number of skills and abilities available for Cal to use has been greatly expanded from Fallen Order. My best guess is by a factor of 3. Lightsaber, force, and survivor skills all have separate trees so you can truly build your character to fit your play style.

Most of the side missions reward you with perks to complement your playstyle and some of them are quite difficult to unlock (like defeat a Rancor in combat).

There are tons of activities to perform for the game’s main characters from finding seeds that will grow plants to tracking down rare fish for an aquarium in the Cantina that serves as a hub on one of the planets

Finally, the other NPCs you interact in the game with will provide rumors for additional quests and treasures

The Bottom Line

I was asked if I felt the game was worth it’s $70 price tag. I can answer with a definitive “Yes!”. So far, the story, customization options, huge environment to explore, and interesting characters to interact with have made this a no brainer for me. I bought the game digitall and there is a $20 “Deluxe Edition” upgrade as DLC that I don’t feel is worth it since that is only outfits and wespon customizations, but the base game is worth every penny!
