Where is the Messaging with PlayStation Plus?

Today is the day that Sony launches the newly revamped PlayStation Plus with new bells and whistles to make this a more competitive service in the age of Game Pass. PlayStation Plus is a three tiered system offering new features and games for players who are willing to pay up for them. At the PS Plus Large tier (premium) players will have access to a slew of amazing first party PlayStation 5 content such as Returnal, Miles Morales, Demon’s Souls as well as the long awaited classics lineup with fan-favorite games that go all the way to the PS1 days. This is all very exciting news for me as a PlayStation enthusiast. So why isn’t PlayStation excited about it?

The message surrounding the new PlayStation Plus has been muted at best with all of the communication done via the official PlayStation Blog. PlayStation Blog is a great platform for hardcore Sony enthusiasts but the average consumer is not going to frequent that destination and Sony has done hardly any (if any at all) advertising for this new premium service on platforms such as twitter or youtube. Here we sit at launch day of the service and while players themselves are buzzing about it, the PlayStation mothership is mostly quiet.

Why PlayStation is being so silent about the rollout of a brand new service you would think they would want all of their player base to get excited about is really lost on me. Especially when Microsoft does such a fantastic job with their Game Pass twitter account constantly reminding everyone who owns a controller why they should jump in to their service, it feels a little bit like PlayStation is almost embarrassed by the product they are about to release. It does little to instill confidence in the new PlayStation Plus when there has been such little fanfare surrounding it.

Regardless of how Sony chooses to market PlayStation Plus I am still excited to go home tonight and capture some apes with the original PS1 classic Ape Escape, and I will be back shortly to recap my thoughts on this new service. Hopefully you will hear a little bit from Sony before you hear back from me.
